ALSO! YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO GET MY NEW BLOGS IN YOUR EMAIL!

I have developed a newsletter that I will mail out when I got something decent to share and this will come into your inbox. It won’t be more than once a month. You can sign up to my newsletter on the landing page on the new site.

What is with the new name you ask?

This is not the end of Hope Project. It is the beginning of something bigger for me and I am taking hope along. I started Hope Project in 2005 as an idea and never thought I would have a webpage as well as being able to live off of it. Over time I realized the name of what I was going under was a very common name (thanks to google) and I wanted a unique name that would be google friendly! I had a zillion new names that I had come up with but funnily enough all of them are taken! This lend to a bit of soul searching and discovering who I am now as an individual and the vision for where I want to go.

As some of you might know I attended an artist residency back in 2011 in the district of Raseborg, Finland. This experience had a profound effect on my way of thinking and creating. Finland is literally polar opposites to South Africa, both culturally and geographically. Finland is a resourceful country. It is clean as well as separated from the rest of Europe. It is an interesting place. In order for a unique name that Google would pick up, the created name of Resoborg came about from this cultural experience. Resoborg is a metaphor for a perfect piece of artwork, safe, clean but far out and unexpected much like Raseborg. ‘Reso’ stands for resource and ‘borg’ is the Swedish word for castle. Therefore, Resoborg is a ‘resource castle’ inspired by Scandinavian and South African design principles. The idea is to still create work that is hopeful and positive but its also about promoting growth in individuals and the community – becoming a man, a town and a country of resource!

Thanks to all of your support I hope to you see you on the other side!

EXHIBITION PHOTOS on April 24th, 2013

Thanks to everyone who came out to our exhibition in Cape Town! Its been a huge success and we are so appreciative of all those that have bought work from us. The show runs until the 25th May 2013 at A Word Of Art in Cape Town. If you interested in purchasing any of the work you can have a look at the catalogue over here. Please contact Elmarie at the gallery if you interested in any of the work on: +27 (0) 72 226 9815.

I have always enjoyed exhibiting in Cape Town and it seems like the place to be if you are a creative these days. I am not sure what is driving all the change that is happening there right now but there is certainly an energy that is flowing through the mountain right now. Since the last show I did in February 2012 at A Word Of Art the Woodstock Industrial Centre has had a MAJOR overhaul. I am not sure if its an overhaul for the better though. In its original state it had an interesting mix of artists and designers using a building that was once affordable and a great place to interact with creatives you might not always “bump” into.

After setting up the show I had a good look around and it almost felt like it had become a “mall” for creatives in a super constructive way – its lost its edge and to me it looks a little too clean for my liking. Is it an accurate reflection of South Africa? Well it does a pretty good job at isolating the rich and the poor which is still happening in richer, suburban settings in this country! Its still a great place though and my hope is that the building acts as a catalyst to helping the surrounding communities and business’s instead of isolating itself and becoming a white elephant. Perhaps the transformation of the building is a good metaphor about the personal works that I have created for the show. A lot of these works are about us as humans taking the responsibility of our actions in our lives and having the power to choose our lifestyle, thoughts and belief systems. The idea is a hopeful one. The idea is that we as humans can change from bad to good, from negative to positive and from dark to light. Without this sense of responsibility there is no hope in this world and that would be a tragedy of the human spirit.

My favourite artwork from our exhibition is this skateboard piece “Yesterday is dead – tomorrow is forever” R3500.

ART MOVIE on February 1st, 2013

A couple weeks ago I went location hunting for a documentary that I am going to be featured in! Its a movie documenting local artists in South Africa and I am pretty excited about this as its going to be filmed with some of the best quality camera’s – I am not talking about Go pro’s! here!! I am going to be working on a mural in a secret location in Durban in this old building. I am really loving the textures, old sign writing on the walls and looking forward to seeing how this is all going to turn out. You can see the layers of paint that has been on these walls…I wonder much history is in this? Can anyone guess where this building is??
